I personally wasn't a fan of this place but it's just a matter of personal preference really. The crowd is much older it seems (60's and up) when I was there. They have live music by it was old rock which is great of that's what you're into but I'm more of a soul r&b girl so I wasn't really feeling it. It's not really on a great spot and parking is kind of crappy as well. I had one beer and left. Not my cup of tea.

Great little spot in east providence. Bartenders are very friendly and right on point. Cash only but there is an atm on the premises. Great place to see a band as well.

This place is exactly what the 3-star explanation upholds "A-OK". Bovi's Tavern, located in East Providence and established in 1947 is one of those places I've driven by more times than I can remember and never thought to stop in. I'm glad I finally did though, this place has potential! As the first stop of a long bar hopping birthday night, a large group of us enthusiastically walked into Bovi's looking for booze, activities, and music. We were presented with all three. The near empty location (it was early in the night) had a very large bar area for us to spread out at and lots of small tables with stools off to the side. A stand up counter encircled the traditional bar and was utilized by many in our group. Instead of groaning and taking their sweet 'ol time serving the large mass of people suddenly there. . .as many other locations did that night. . . the bartenders here jumped into action and swiftly poured, mixed, and prepared our drinks of choice. Prices were very reasonable and the speedy service was well noted. People immediately jumped into action starting pool games and requesting songs on the digital jukebox. Keno and Wifi available as well! During our time there, a band called 5 Flavor Discount was setting up. Bovi's offers varying live bands every Friday and Saturday night, a bluesy jam band Wolf and the Jam Daddies on Wednesdays, and the John Allmark Jazz Band on Mondays. They certainly do not lack in the entertainment department. If for any reason 5 Flavor Discount is reading this review, I whole-heartedly apologize that our group was scheduled to leave before your show ever began. I would have enjoyed hearing some of your tunes! While the decor is a bit dated and could use some updating, I can appreciate what this business has to offer. From the photos on the website, it appears as though this place can get really bumping on a busy night. I am unsure if I will return to this location but it is definitely not out of the question if I'm looking for a night of live, local music! Not sure what time they open their doors but they remain passable until 1 am 7 days a week!

Bovi's has been around for decades entertaining generations of customers with their live music. If you're looking for live music, at a no frills off grid bar, check out this place on a Monday night.

Great home Town Tavern!!! With an incredible monday night...featuring 16 piece jazz bands for the last 42 years....now with John Allmark. this is my cousin's place and is managed by his son Jay Bovi....great bands on weekends as well!!.....What Matters....Zink Alloy...Archives....Crushed Velvet......Brother to Brother....and many others. Bovi's was opened by John Bovi in 1947,he featured the very best of local and national musicians. Dixieland was the winner for many years.. with Tony Tomasso and the Jewels of Dixie. Featuring national acts like the fanous trumpet player Bobby Hackett! as well as pee wee russell, bud freemond, clark terri, the joe bucci trio, coleman hawkins and many more. also featured in the 1950's was the great Art Pelosi and the Artones, a jazz quintet. in 1967 things were slowing down because of the new music "Rock and Roll". and i was called on to bring the club back to life. Hired a group from Brown U, that i was producing at the time and recording a record with.."The American Dream" ..and hired a blues singer "Ken Lyon to play on Tues.Nights. the ads said "musicians are invited to sit in"..ten weeks later the band grew to eight and with Duke Robillard in it [later he formed the Roomfull of Blues Band] ..the "Ken Lyon and the Tombstone Blues Band" was formed! with hard work, the proper ads and connections with radio stations ..WPRO and WICE..we had the place packed again seven nights a week and sunday afternoon! like the good old days...at the same time i had Records Stores in Downtown Providence and elseware but it was Bovi's Tavern i was needed. you could find me there seven nights a week and sunday afternoon. even opened at 4:00pm on Thangsgiving Day and had the place packed by 5:00...... other bands in those days that helped the Tavern get back on track were. The Reign.....Steve Parisi and The Banchees....Tangerine Zoo....The Accents..........The Ascots..........the Ricky Carr Corp band...many more 1967-1970.....stop by and have a good time you will be glad you did.....i started my own club in riverside called ...G.Flagg's 1983-1990...did the same thing i did at Bovi's years before....packed the place....many of the same musicians are playing at Bovi's now started at G.Flagg's...Coda is now one of the biggest drawing bands in New England.........."What Matters"......my pleasure writing this revue for you.........................................................BOB BOVI ripopmusic.org

I love Bovi's for being exactly what it represents itself as: a local bar full of good people and good fun. The drinks are not expensive, the bartenders are all either family or friends, and I've never left there and not had a good time. Live bands Friday, Saturday, and most Thursdays provide entertainment, and of course there is the John Allmark Orchestra that has been performing live, award-winning Jazz there on Monday nights since before I was born. There is also a pool table and a juke box for the nights when there is no band. Regardless of what night you go on, look for the popcorn machine in the far left corner next to the ATM. Yum!
